About Albuquerque

Population: 2,000,000 (approximately)

Albuquerque, New Mexico's largest city, was founded in 1706. The city was named after New Spain's viceroy, the Duke of Alburquerque.

The first "r" was dropped at some point in the 19th century, supposedly by an Anglo station-master unable to pronounce the city's name.

City of Albuquerque

One fact many may not know, is that Albuquerque was the initial home of Microsoft, founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen.

Bugs Bunny put the city on the map when he said, "I should have made a left at Albuquerque."

That's not all Albuquerque is known for, over 1 million people a year come from all over the world to visit the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.

The Balloon Fiesta hosts a variety of balloons from traditional shapes, cartoon characters to a selection of unique designs.
